Language Arts

First Grade Language Arts strengthens foundational literacy as scholars become independent readers and writers. They read words with long and short vowels, recognize sight words, and read aloud with accuracy and expression. Scholars write complete sentences using capitalization, punctuation, and descriptive words, and they retell stories with a clear beginning, middle, and end. By reading fiction and nonfiction texts, scholars build comprehension, vocabulary, and communication confidence.

Mathematics

First Grade Mathematics builds fluency in addition and subtraction within 20 and deepens number understanding to 120. Scholars organize, represent, and interpret data with charts and graphs, explore equal shares, and compare lengths using standard and nonstandard units. They identify two- and three-dimensional shapes and describe their attributes. Through games and problem solving, scholars connect mathematical ideas to everyday experiences.

Social Studies

First Grade Social Studies builds understanding of citizenship, economics, geography, and history. Scholars explain why rules help communities function, recognize state and national symbols, and identify leaders who have contributed to the common good. They explore basic economic ideas such as goods, services, and saving. Map studies help scholars locate their community within Oklahoma and the United States while building respect for cultural diversity.

Science

First Grade Science engages scholars in observing, predicting, and recording changes in the natural world. They investigate how light and sound travel, classify materials by their properties, and describe seasonal weather patterns. Scholars explore how plants and animals use their external parts to survive and grow. By conducting hands-on investigations, they develop an understanding of cause and effect in the world around them.
