4TH GRADE MATH

In fourth grade mathematics scholars will work with hands on manipulatives to develop and strengthen the following skills:

  • Students will demonstrate fluency with multiplication and division facts with factors up to 12.

  • Place value, decimals, and numerical relationships.
  • Patterns and algebraic reasoning
  • Fractional equivalency  and operations
  • Customary measurement and time
  • 2D and 3D geometric figures

  • Data Analysis

  • Fraction, decimal, and percent relationships

4TH GRADE SCIENCE

4th Grade Science serves as a hands-on introduction to the scientific method and fosters active involvement through beginning laboratory experiments and demonstrations. Sixth Grade Science scholars participate in “Modules,” which are composed of hands-on, scholar-centered, project-based activities. These modules provide multiple opportunities for scholars to observe, analyze and carry out the process of the scientific method and engineering design process.   PITSCO labs serve as a means of innovative, self-paced inquiry and interactive discovery.  Topics for lab experiences included:

  • Understand how water, ice, wind and plants affect the rate of breakdown in rocks and the movement of rocks from place to place.

  • Analyze and interpret data from maps to describe patterns in Earth’s features.

  • Use a model to describe patterns of waves and how waves can cause objects to move.

  • Develop an understanding of the ways internal and external parts of plants and animals support their survival, growth, behavior and reproduction.

  • Develop a model to describe how an object can be seen when light reflected from its surface enters the eye.

  • Create an explanation of the relationship between the speed of an object and the energy of that object.

  • Understand how energy can be transferred from place to place by sound, light, heat and electric currents or from object to object through collisions.
