We have five main topics to cover in Pre-Algebra. To begin, we will explore the Real Number System, including Irrational Numbers.  We will take time to reacquaint ourselves with number operations and then move into Exponents and Roots. Once we understand exponents we can work with Scientific Notation.. very cool!

Our second topic is Algebra.. beautiful, reliable Algebra. We will become very friendly with simple linear equations. You should expect to recognize slopes throughout your homes and lives, whether you want to or not. That's just the allure of Algebra.

After the winter holidays comes the Pythagorean Theorem. This is your first study of the special math associated with triangles, and in this case, Right Triangles. There are some very cool relationships there. Next, we move into our fourth topic, Solid Geometry. Solid figures that we can make and hold will reveal their secrets to us.

Our final topic has us working with Probabilities and Graphs of data that will morph into Linear Equations again. We get to spend our last weeks playing with our good buddy, Algebra. It's going to be a great year.

Pre-Algebra

Pre-Algebra develops scholars' understanding of integer exponents, proportional relationships, lines and linear equations, pairs of simultaneous linear equations, functions and the Pythagorean Theorem. Scholars learn how to calculate surface areas and volumes of various common shapes. Scholars learn how to set up and solve basic algebraic equations, calculate the slope of a line and utilize basic data analysis methods.
