In second-grade social studies, students build a strong foundation in understanding their community, state, and country. Using the Oklahoma Academic Standards as a guide, students explore important concepts such as citizenship, geography, history, economics, and government. They learn about national symbols, historical figures, and holidays that represent American ideals. Students also begin to understand basic map skills, including using directions and identifying landforms and bodies of water. They explore how communities work, how people make choices, and how citizens contribute to society. By connecting past and present, students develop a deeper appreciation for their roles as responsible citizens in a diverse and democratic society.
