Welcome

In 3rd grade, ELA transitions from basic decoding to deep comprehension, as students pivot from "learning to read" to "reading to learn." They spend the year analyzing story elements like character motivation and central themes while building the stamina to navigate longer chapter books. Writing becomes more formal, shifting from simple sentences to structured multi-paragraph essays across narrative, opinion, and informational genres. By bridging the gap between fluency and critical thinking, students develop the tools to research topics independently and engage in collaborative academic discussions.

3rd grade Social Studies in Oklahoma focuses on state identity, moving from local communities to the broader history and geography of the state. Students explore Oklahoma’s unique landscapes, its Native American heritage, and the impact of major historical events like the Land Run and the Dust Bowl. The curriculum also introduces state government and the key industries—like agriculture and energy—that drive the local economy.
