Welcome to second grade math! In second grade, students build confidence and independence as mathematicians. Throughout the year, they strengthen their understanding of place value, addition and subtraction within 1,000, measurement, data, and early foundations of geometry. Students learn to explain their thinking, solve real-world problems, and use a variety of strategies and tools to deepen their understanding.
Our goal is not just to help students get the right answer, but to help them understand why math works. We encourage curiosity, perseverance, and a positive math mindset as students grow their skills and prepare for future success. Families play an important role in supporting math learning, and we look forward to partnering with you this year!
